What if the goal is something else?
In my experience, people often come to BeTrue wanting to change something. They want to react differently. Stop feeling what hurts. Find a relationship. Feel good enough.
Then they watch to see whether it's working. Whether the same situations stop upsetting them. And when a familiar feeling returns, so does the disappointment: "Again? I've done so much work on this."
I understand. I used to see it the same way.
In BeTrue, we use the word "clearing". And it's easy to turn that into a goal: clear something so we never have to feel it again. Once we've done that, we'll finally be okay.
But that gives us another condition to meet. First, I have to change. Only then can I be who I am.
The purpose of BeTrue is to be with ourselves and allow ourselves to experience whatever is here. Perhaps I'm sad. Perhaps I feel unsuccessful. Perhaps I feel like a victim. But I no longer have to avoid myself or reject myself for what I'm feeling. I don't have to believe that what I feel defines who I am.
Tomorrow, I might look in the mirror and feel something completely different. Or even this afternoon. Sometimes I like how I look; other times I think I look terrible. But I'm still me.
It's about allowing this to be my experience right now. I don't have to abandon myself or disconnect from my body because of it. I can stay present in my own life.
And that happens during clearing itself. When I allow myself to feel what I'm feeling, even if I wish I felt something else.
I don't have to wait until I'm "done".
I can still want a relationship, more money, or a change in my life. But I no longer have to achieve those things before I can let myself be who I am.
Sometimes change looks like this: the same feeling comes up again. And this time, I don't abandon myself because of it.
Perhaps that's what we've been looking for all along, under so many different names.
