Why does the feeling come back when I already understand it?

14/09/2026

You know why you're afraid. You understand where it comes from. And yet one sentence, one look — and that familiar feeling is back.

Does that happen to you too?

For a long time, I looked for relief through understanding. I thought things through, explored the connections and tried to reassure myself.

Sometimes it helped. But other times, I understood everything and my chest still felt tight.

Today, being able to turn towards what I feel in my body matters to me too.

But "stay with the feeling" is easy to say.

How do you actually do that? And what if the feeling is exactly what you don't want to feel?

This is where discovering the BeTrue method made such a difference for me. With a specific process and guidance, I didn't have to figure out how to connect with myself on my own. I could take it step by step.

One of those steps is asking: What feels worst about this right now?

That helps me get closer to what is actually coming up inside me. Perhaps fear, loneliness or pain.

But sometimes what comes up most strongly is:
"No. I don't want to feel this."

And this is where one of my biggest discoveries happened.

I don't have to push past that "no" either.

I don't have to force myself into sadness when everything inside me is resisting it. First, I can make room for not wanting to feel it. Notice how that resistance feels in my body and allow it to be there for a moment.

My "I don't want to" has a place too.

When the resistance softens, sometimes there is room for the feeling itself. And if it doesn't soften, I don't have to rush ahead.

For me, this is very different from gritting my teeth and enduring an uncomfortable emotion.

Today, I know how to stay connected with myself, even when part of me wants to run away. I have a specific process I can rely on, and I use it to guide others too.

This has given me the freedom to feel exactly as I feel, without having to fight it.

Have you ever been told to "stay with the feeling" and had no idea what you were actually supposed to do? What did that bring up for you?

If you'd like to explore what this is like with guidance, you're welcome to message me. I'd be happy to guide you through an individual BeTrue session, with room for whatever you're experiencing and respect for your own pace.
